In a previous article I described some generic characteristics about the Chakras. With this article, instead, we begin an in-depth journey to specifically explain everything that is important to know about these interesting energy centers.
Safety, survival and certainty are three behavioral attributes that characterize Muladhara Chakra. As you surely know, the main chakras according to Western beliefs are 7, and we begin their discovery from the first Chakra.
Get comfortable and let’s discover all the characteristics of this first chakra together.
WHAT IS THE FIRST CHAKRA?
The first chakra, also called the base chakra, represents the principles of the entire chakra system. The term Muladhara means “support of the base”. It is in fact the chakra that creates support within this system and, if the support is strong, the energy can rise to and through the other chakras. It represents the energetic way that gives the possibility to connect to our physical body and to mother earth. It is the chakra that helps us maintain balance, helps us feel comfortable and aligned. It has a red energy, in fact it is associated with this color and allows us to remain anchored to the earth.
WHERE IS IT AND ITS CONNECTION WITH THE PHYSICAL BODY
It is located at the base of the spine between the genitals and the anus.
As you may have noticed, or you will notice, the position of the chakras is located in correspondence with our endocrine glands in our body, which are responsible for releasing hormones and the energetic activity of the chakras helps to keep them in balance. Each chakra is developed at different times, the first chakra is developed when you are inside the womb with a complete activation during birth. Many of your early life experiences, both positive and negative, are printed in this chakra, which will be influenced in its functioning by these same experiences. Unfortunately, traumatic experiences from your ancestors or family are also present in this chakra.
On a physical level, the first chakra helps the proper functioning of the legs and feet, kidneys, bladder and obviously the spine. It is also linked to the basic needs of life such as food, shelter, warmth and comfort. The sexual impulse is generated from this chakra. If kept in balance it will be normal to meet these needs.
THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING THIS CHAKRA IN BALANCE
Keeping the first chakra balanced is of fundamental importance, since its disalligment leads to the instability and insecurity towards others. When this chakra is in balance, you feel more confident, gain more self-trust, and help you perform tasks in life with greater ability and enthusiasm. Furthermore, when balanced, it will give you the ability to deal with problems and manage conflicts without too many hitches and with a calm and constructive mind, so that annoying subjects will not scare you.
A disequilibrium within the first chakra could cause a lot of controversy and can often lead to energy imbalances even in some organs or parts of the body. For example, on a strictly physical level there could be problems such as fatigue, hemorrhoids, osteoarthritis, constipation, back pain, weight problems and diarrhea or it could lead to sleep disturbances or cold sensations. When you lose your balance, any activity can seem difficult. With the unbalanced first chakra one could lose confidence in oneself and towards others, one can become more selfish, bossy and aggressive. Happiness cannot be found, clumsiness and lethargy could overwhelm and happenings of greed, impulsiveness and materialism could occur.
PRACTICES TO KEEP YOUR FIRST CHAKRA IN HARMONY
I guess one of the many questions you are asking yourself is how to rebalance this chakra.
You will well know that if a problem occurs, you must not become a victim of the incident but rather find one of the many solutions already present. The imbalance of a chakra can mainly be caused by its overuse and therefore my very first advice, you will probably hear it very often, is to fully express your love for yourself. There are many ways to express love for yourself and I am sure that each of you has your own unique, perfect and harmonious method. If, on the other hand, you still haven’t found it, you could take a cue from these tips. If you feel your first chakra unbalanced, dance and sing without any worry, with the door closed, in order to express your freedom. A walk in nature rooted to the ground or a nice hug to a tree are practices that help the re-harmonization of this chakra.
If, on the other hand, you think that meditation is for you, you could try to imagine a red flame that shines brightly at the base of your spine, the base of the coccyx to be more precise, which extends into your legs and feet, rooting you to the ground. Here a harmonious melody useful to bring balance to your first chakra during meditation.
RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS AND ESSENTIAL OILS
Before listing the essential oils and crystals that can help restore balance in the first chakra, I would like to make you an introduction. Not necessarily these oils or these crystals could work on you, not because you are wrong but precisely because you are unique and in fact each of us resonates with certain energies compared to others. Although this list is general it may still have a positive impact on your chakra. Although crystals and essential oils work differently, they can help you tremendously in your daily life. Crystals that can help rebalance your base chakra are red jasper, ruby, and smoky quartz. Rosemary, myrrh, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang are the essential oils that could be used.
